Grade 2

Students are working on their last project of the school year. They are learning about seahorses and creating their own using watercolor crayons in the style of Eric Carle!

We are working on finishing our flower magnets. We learned about the artist Georgia O'Keeffe.
Watch the brainpop video below to learn more about her.

This week we are starting our Earth Day project! We will discuss ways to help our environment and learn about our solar system. Students will paint their Earth with watercolor crayons and create a background using construction paper crayons.

Students are learning about Wassily Kandinsky who was an artist and musician that had synesthesia. This occurs in about 1 in 2000 people in the world. Due to cross wiring in the brain, two senses react together at the same time in a strange way. With Kandinsky, he could hear music notes when he saw or painted with color! Pretty awesome huh!

This week, the students are working on the warm/cool color review project. They will use cool color crayons for their background and warm color watercolor crayons to create their heart painting. This is an important project to make sure that you know your warm and cool colors!

Students are now working on their penguin projects. We will be using construction paper to create the background which includes water, icebergs, and clouds. Then the following week we will be creating our penguins from colored art tape. Check out this cute video of Cookie the penguin!

Students are learning about Snowflake Bentley! He is the man who first photographed snowflakes! Then they are making a picture of winter mountains and trees with snow. See the info below about this great scientist.

Take the quiz!

Students have just started working on the giraffe project. We learned some interesting science facts about giraffes and heard the book, Giraffes Can't Dance put to music! Second graders will be illustrating their giraffe in a dancing pose just like the story!

Students are working on creating their own rainbow fish using marker and metallic paper. We read the story and learned about various fish parts!

This week students are finishing up the Starry Night pictures using construction paper crayons on black paper. They are adding their buildings and trees using colored construction paper.
A cool new download is available for iPad where you can interact with the famous painting!
