Grade 4

Students are trying out a brand new project! We learned about underwater hotels and created a single point perspective aquarium. Our focus was on measuring and the use of straight lines. Students also got to create some cool salt water fish!

We are now learning about the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. She is an amazing artist most famous for her large flower paintings and paintings of New Mexico. See the video below and search on brainpop for her as well!

This week we are learning about Victor Nunes. He is a really cool artist who uses found objects and turns them into something else by creating a drawing around them. Check out the cool examples of his work below!

Students are learning about the art of Jim Dine. He creates paintings of hearts. We will be exploring various global awareness issues. Students will choose an issue to illustrate. Last year, one of the student's projects was chosen for an art show at The College of New Jersey! Please see the link below for a Prezi presentation of Miss Miragliotta's students' art from last year.

Students are now creating their Chinese lanterns to celebrate the coming of the new year! We learned all about Chinese New Year and will be using watercolor paints to create our lanterns.

Students are beginning to work on their masks this week. We learned about African, Egyptian, and Venetian styles. Next class we will see a video on the celebration called Carnival in Venice. Each student got a style mask and will be using watercolor paint, glitter. and rhinestones to decorate them!

Everyone in grade 4 is beginning the Jack Skellington project. We are checking out the amazing art of Tim Burton! He created one of my favorite movies of all time... Edward Scissorhands! Students will be illustrating Jack using oil pastels. Eventually, we may even add a bit of black glitter for that extra magical sparkle!
